Virtual Author Visits

How is it going for you? Does inviting someone to your school at this time feel too complicated – even if you know that an author visit can enthuse, motivate, energise and hone literacy skills?

Let me help …

… let me help to create a buzz about books, let me help you celebrate National Poetry Day, World Book Day and all the other days that benefit from enjoyment and engagement with books.

Let me help develop writing skills and listening skills, linking to your curriculum – and boosting reading for pleasure…

I am creating a library of Virtual Author Visit packages for schools starting with the inspirational story of Walter Tull.

Walter Tull's Scrapbook

In scrapbook format, using authentic documents and photos, we learn the story of the first black professional footballer, Walter Tull – who went on to become the first black officer in the British Army.

It’s an inspiring story with an important message about courage, endurance, and overcoming discrimination.

Respect

Respect also tells the story of Walter Tull – but this time as a quick read. The book is very popular with all sorts of readers but has proved particularly successful with dyslexic or reluctant readers who enjoy a story that is gripping, well-paced, easy to read, inspiring – and true.

The newest edition has many more photos, much more detail – and a new look!

What do you get with a Virtual Author Visit?

I can deliver the usual live Zoom events of course but I also offer professionally made pre-recorded films which offer you:

  • Close ups of material — visual material — photos, pages, pictures, documents etc.

  • Freedom from worry about group sizes and timetabling

  • The ability to pause and restart to deal with discussion, writing, responses – or disturbances

  • Freedom from potential tech challenges

  • The opportunity to re-visit and reuse or to share with children who have missed the session

  • Background sounds and music

The pre-recorded films can end with a short live session with me to answer any questions, comments, and respond to work produced. This can be discussed with you in advance or you can fill in the questionnaire with any questions and comments you would like to raise.

Availability

  • As the sessions are pre-recorded you can use the films any time or date that suits, up to the agreed cut-off point
